08/21/2010 - Houston, TX (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Brian Ching scored a hat trick and the Houston Dynamo edged the Chicago Fire in a seven-goal thriller Saturday night, 4-3, at Robertson Stadium to snap a 10-game winless skid in Major League Soccer.
Ching scored once in the first half and added two more in the second half, one on a bicycle kick, as the teams combined for six second-half goals.
Houston (6-10-5) won for the first time since May 22 when it beat D.C. United. The Dynamo had six losses and four draws during their winless streak. Lovell Palmer also scored, and Richard Mulrooney played a part in all four goals.
Calen Carr and Wilman Conde scored for Chicago (6-6-6), which also got an own goal from Bobby Bowell. Freddie Ljungberg had both assists for Chicago.
Houston opened the scoring in the 31st minute when Chicago goalie Sean Johnson dropped a corner kick from Mulrooney and Ching fired into an empty net for his fourth goal of the year.
Palmer doubled Houston's lead five minutes into the second half off an assist from Mulrooney. Palmer took the pass and slotted to the bottom right for his second goal of the season.
Chicago responded in the 55th when Ljungberg set up Carr, who scored the game- winner Wednesday night in a 2-1 win over New England, and he slipped the ball past Houston goalie Pat Onstad.
Ching pushed Houston's edge back to two goals just a few minutes later, as he found a loose ball off another Mulrooney corner and used a bicycle kick at the edge of the six-yard box to beat Johnson in the 59th.
Chicago cut the deficit in half in the 70th when Boswell and Chicago's Patrick Nyarko were battling for a ball at the edge of the area and it bounced off the Dynamo defender and rolled inside the right post.
Wilman Conde added his first goal of the season in the 81st off an assist from Ljungberg, as the Fire erased the two-goal deficit.
Ching made sure Houston's winless run wouldn't continue, as he got on the end of another corner from Mulrooney and headed inside the right post from about six yards out for his sixth of the season.
Houston hosts the Colorado Rapids in its next game Aug. 28, when Chicago hopes to rebound at Ljungberg's former team, Seattle Sounders FC.

El Duque expected to throw Tuesday
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- New York Mets pitcher Orlando Hernandez, sidelined at spring training because of arthritis in his neck, is expected to resume throwing on Tuesday.
Hernandez received a cortisone shot Thursday after leaving camp and returning to New York to have his neck examined. The 41-year-old right-hander is penciled in as the team's No. 2 starter behind Tom Glavine.
El Duque's health is a major issue for the Mets, who won the NL East in 2007 and came within one victory of the World Series. Their aging and unsettled rotation is a big question mark this year.
MySportsbook.com has the Mets as -110 favorites to repeat as NL East champions odds.
Hernandez went 11-11 with a 4.66 ERA last season, including 9-7 with a 4.09 ERA in 20 starts after the Mets acquired him from Arizona in late May. But he missed the playoffs because of a torn calf muscle.
New York already is without Pedro Martinez, out until at least midseason following rotator cuff surgery. Among those competing for starting jobs are prospects Mike Pelfrey, Philip Humber and Jason Vargas, plus veterans Chan Ho Park, Jorge Sosa and Aaron Sele.
Notes: Mets manager Willie Randolph is excited about two new utility players he could have on his bench: Damion Easley and David Newhan. ''Their value is really all over the place,'' Randolph said. Easley can play anywhere in the infield and could be used as an emergency outfielder, though Randolph said he would prefer to keep the veteran in the infield. Newhan, meanwhile, can play second base, third or any outfield position for the Mets. ''I love versatility,'' Randolph said. ''I love guys that can give me options when I need them to step in.''
