12/24/2008 - Denver, CO (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Brett Clark scored the game-winner in overtime, and the Colorado Avalanche held off a Phoenix rally to down the Coyotes, 5-4, at the Pepsi Center.
Paul Stastny, John-Michael Liles and Ryan Smyth each had a goal and two assists for the Avalanche, who have won five of eight. Clark also recorded an assist, while Milan Hejduk scored in the victory. Andrew Raycroft allowed four goals on 23 shots in the win.
"You gotta give them a lot of credit. (The Coyotes) fought hard to get a point," Smyth said. "After (the loss to) Florida, we knew we had to go out and get a good start and get shots on net. We got a lot of shots on the net; Bryzgalov was fantastic. We wanted to finish it and get the two points before Christmas."
Shane Doan scored two goals in the last five minutes of the third period for the Coyotes, who have lost two straight after a six-game point streak. Olli Jokinen had a goal and two assists, and Joakim Lindstrom tallied a goal in the loss.
"(Goalie Ilya) Bryzgalov was unbelievable. After we scored, we thought we had the point," Doan said. "(Jokinen) and Peter (Mueller) were great in the third. I'm glad we got the point, I wish we could have gotten two."
Ed Jovanovski had two assists, Bryzgalov had a superb 43-save effort for Phoenix.
"It was a tough game for us. We got here at four in the morning," Bryzgalov said. "It was tough to get ready. Colorado played very well tonight. The bottom line is we just got a point. Late in the game we were fortunate to start getting the pucks on the net."
Tied 2-2 late in the third, the Avalanche went up with 7:55 left in the game on the power play. A slapshot was denied by Bryzgalov, and Stastny's rebound chance in close was stopped again with a stick save. However, Liles found the puck out front and lifted it over the sprawled-out goaltender for the tally.
Colorado made it a two-goal game just 1:38 later, as Smyth took the puck down the right side of the ice and beat Bryzgalov above his left shoulder for an insurance goal.
The insurance proved necessary, as Doan's wrister got past Raycroft to make it 4-3 with 4:07 on the clock. The Coyotes then tied it after pulling Bryzgalov in the final minute. Doan's slapshot from the left circle got through traffic and into the back of the net with just 48 seconds left to play, sending the game to overtime.
The Coyotes' comeback fell short, however, as the Avalanche netted the game- winner 1:48 into the extra session. Clark took a pass in the slot from Tyler Arnason and blasted it past Bryzgalov's stick for the game-winner.
"I made a fake and then I hit one hard, and fortunately it went into the net," Clark said. "I feel I'm contributing a lot, and tonight, hopefully, will be a kick-start to something better."
Phoenix took an early lead on Lindstrom's third goal of the season just 4:39 into the game.
Stastny, who came into the game having posted a goal in three of four contests, tied the contest on a power-play marker with 8:01 left in the opening frame on his 10th tally of the season.
Hejduk helped the Avs to their first lead of the game in the second, as his tip-in a little more than seven minutes into the period made it a 2-1 Colorado advantage.
Jokinen tied the game once again with his 11th goal of the season, a snap shot that beat Raycroft at the 6:48 mark of the third.

MySportsbook.com Posts Heisman Trophy Odds
With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best Heisman Trophy odds at 5-2.
Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season. Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.
This online sportsbook has also listed Troy Smith, Ohio State senior quarterback, as another strong favorite to win the 72nd Heisman Trophy. A 7-1 bet, Smith threw for 2,282 yards last season and also led the Buckeyes to a convincing 34-20 victory over Quinn and the Fighting Irish in last season’s Fiesta Bowl.
Current betting odds Heisman trophy are:
